Enrichment Afternoons

This year we have made an exciting change to our curriculum for Friday afternoons, which aims to enhance and enrich the children’s learning experiences.

Starting this term, the first half hour of every Friday afternoon will be dedicated to a paired reading initiative across classes. This programme has proven beneficial for both the older and the younger pupils, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages a love of reading and enhances literacy skills.

After paired reading, the Reception and Key Stage 1 children will participate in a continuous provision programme, allowing them to engage in hands-on learning experiences that are closely linked to their learning through the week. This approach provides the children with the opportunity to explore and consolidate their understanding in a creative manner.

Meanwhile, our Key Stage 2 children will embark on a six-week block covering a variety of enriching subjects. Each half term they will experience a new project - throughout the year they will engage in: Philosophy, Robin Wood, British Sign Language, Drama, First Aid and Eco-Awareness.

These activities aim to broaden their horizons, extend their learning beyond the curriculum, spark creativity, and encourage critical thinking. Children within Key Stage 2 will be organised in cross-age groups, allowing for peer learning and collaboration, with a rotation system implemented throughout the academic year.

We believe these changes will not only enhance the educational experience but also promote a sense of community and mutual support within our school. We are excited to witness the positive impact this curriculum enhancement will have on our children’s learning.

If you have a skillset that would support us in delivering the Friday afternoon offer, please speak to us as your support would be most welcomed.
